Please read the following from SKY Academy/YMCA:
SKY Academy and YMCA are constantly looking for ways to improve the social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of our students and community. With consideration of recent events that have occurred, both of our SKY Academy campuses will have a Sarasota County Sheriffs Deputy stationed at our school campuses for the remainder of the 2017-18 school year. The safety of our students, staff, and community members remains the utmost priority. The sheriff’s deputies will be a regular presence at both of our SKY Academy locations. Moving forward into the 2018-19 school year we are examining different options and will decide in the near future on how best to continue maintaining a safe learning environment.
Students learn best when they feel safe and supported. SKY Academy already has supportive and caring teachers and staff who go out of their way to ensure students wellbeing and academic success. Adding a sheriff’s deputy to an already supportive environment will enhance the caring community that has been developed at SKY.
SKY Academies are the first Sarasota County charter schools to take this step. It is our sincerest hope that no child will ever need to fear for their safety while in the pursuit of their academic dreams. Having extra security on our SKY campuses will help ensure that all our students can reach for the sky and achieve their dreams.
This is who we are, what we do, and why SKY Academy is such a special place to learn and grow each day. SKY Academy is an “A” rated Sarasota County Public charter school and is still accepting applications for the 2018-19 school year. For more information about our school visit us at www.SKYattheY.com.
