Jenna Carlin

I have been part of the Sky family since year two of Sky Englewood.  In 2016, I came to Sky as a full-time substitute teacher to cover a maternity leave for an ELA teacher and kept subbing here and there after her return. After taking a year off to have  my second daughter in 2017, I decided to join the Sky family full-time. I started as a technology teacher. The following year I was offered a position in my FAVORITE subject History, and I have been teaching 6th grade World History for the past 3 years. Although I love the education field and I am a history buff, ( I even have the t=shirt to prove it)  I did not always intend on a career as a history teacher. I graduated from the University of South Florida St.Pete, “Go Bull!s!” with a Social Science degree with a focus on Criminology and Psychology. Now my Criminology knowledge is only used when I am listening to a true crime podcast.  

Last year I oversaw and hosted our very first Florida History Day fair at Sky Academy. Florida History Day is part of a National competition in which students create an on Theme Historical Project to present and compete in a school level, district level and then state level competition.Not all participants make it to the State level. However, I am proud to say that in our first year of participation, one of our groups made it all the way to the state level in Tallahassee. I am so excited to  oversee this exciting competition again this year. In past years at Sky Academy, I have co-sponsored the student council.  I look forward to being the sponsor for the YMCA’s Youth In Government Program this coming year.

When I am not teaching history, I am spending time with my family which consists of my husband Tom and our two daughters, Lucy and Sally. Activities we enjoy are traveling ( to historical landmarks mostly) going to the many Florida natural springs and of course playing and coaching softball. We also have two fur members of the family June Bug our cat and George our Boxer.
