Please take our Declaration of Intent Survey for the Upcoming 2020-2021 School Year

Dear SKY Family,

Please take a moment to complete the following survey. This is our declaration of intent survey. We are asking you to choose between in-person learning in our building or remote learning from your home but taught by SKY Academy teachers. We know that we are still a month away from the start of school and things may change. What you choose today is not binding, but will help us as we plan and create class schedules. We ask that you please complete the survey as soon as possible.

SKY Academy Englewood Reopening Plan 2020-2021

SCSB Proposes Delaying School Opening until August 31st

There has been a change in our opening plan since yesterday's email. The Sarasota County School Board has proposed delaying the opening of school until August 31st. This has to be approved by the Florida Department of Education. Since we follow the Sarasota County calendar, if their opening date changes, so does ours. The rest of the letter and information distributed yesterday is still accurate, though we have learned with this current pandemic, things may still change.

Stay tuned for an update on the start of the school year. If the opening gets pushed back, we will hold off on sending the declaration of intent survey out until closer to the new start date.

Monday Updates: Virtual Learning & More

Dear SKY Family,

Today we had a great staff meeting and discussed the plans for how to best serve our students and families during this building closure.  Teachers will be using Google Classroom as the platform to assign student work.  Please have your child show you their Google Classroom platform.  It would also be helpful to write down their login and password, this way you can see what they are going and receive notifications from teachers about class activities.  Google Classroom will be the primary form of communication between teachers and students.  Some teachers have already begun posting assignments, but all teachers will have assignments posted on Wednesday.  Work will be assigned on Monday and will be due the following Monday.  This way its flexible and families can work around their schedules.

We have had five Chromebook distribution sessions at SKY.  If you still need a Chromebook, internet access, or live in an area with no access to internet at all, please contact our technology coordinator Natalia Shea ([email protected]).

This is going to be an interesting time, full of transitions and learning new skills.  Our goal is to work with each student and family and to make this process as simple as possible.  We want all students to be successful, and I am confident that with us all working together, the students will continue to learn and grow academically.

Thank you and stay safe and healthy.
